How Nutritional is Hemp Seed Oil?

Natural Omega 3 Supplement - New Zealand Hemp

As a Pharmacist, I am always discussing the importance of Omega 3 while cautioning against Omega 6 due to its potential to increase inflammation. However, when it comes to Hemp Seed Oil, there's an interesting twist. While it contains Omega 6, a significant portion is Gamma-Linoleic Acid or GLA. What sets GLA apart is that, despite being an Omega 6, it's actually anti-inflammatory. It achieves this by elevating D-GLA, an anti-inflammatory compound, in white blood cells. Since white blood cells lack the enzyme that converts D-GLA to arachidonic acid (the inflammatory Omega 6), the overall effect of consuming GLA is reduced inflammation. How remarkable!

So, what does this mean for you? While we can't make direct claims about the anti-inflammatory effects of Hemp Seed Oil or GLA, there's substantial anecdotal evidence suggesting support for people dealing with various inflammatory conditions, such as:

  • PMS (GLA may help balance hormonal health)
  • ADHD
  • Breast Pain
  • Diabetes and diabetic neuropathy
  • Heart disease
  • High blood pressure
  • Multiple sclerosis
  • Obesity
  • Rheumatoid arthritis (in rats)
  • Skin allergies (particularly for those affected by chlorine in Christchurch!)

Although we haven't conducted peer-reviewed randomized controlled trials on our Hemp Seed Oil (we're not a huge multinational corporation), the positive stories we've heard from users give us confidence in its potential benefits.

And that's not all! Hemp Seed Oil also boasts the highly acclaimed Omega 3 essential fatty acids. The Brothers Green Hemp Seed Oil is New Zealand's top plant-based source of Omega 3, with the perfect 3:1 ratio, considered optimal for human health. Omega 3, typically from fish oil, has long been recommended for heart and brain health. Now, you can increase your Omega 3 intake without negatively affecting marine life—an essential part of our mission here at The Brothers Green, promoting not only personal health but also the health of our planet.

In my opinion, every Kiwi should start incorporating The Brothers Green Hemp Seed Oil into their daily diet as a New Zealand Omega 3 supplement. This could be a significant step toward reducing our alarming chronic disease statistics in NZ.

Hi Rina!
You cannot heat hemp any more than 40 degrees before it denatures the essential fatty acids (good fats). It won’t be harmful if you do heat them, however you will lose the beneficial properties. When adding hemp to hot food it is best as a garnish or topping once the meal is presented on the plate.

The Brothers

Can you heat your oils, hearts and hulled hemp seeds without losing the medicinal properties ??

Kia Ora Ron, thank you very much for reading and for your question.

There is no increased risk of bleeding with our hemp seed oil and aspirin (we are assuming you’re taking 100mg daily?). It is a very good plant based source of omega 3 (as well as the omega 6 described above). The only potential concern would be if you were on an anti-coagulant such as Warfarin or Dabigatran.

Please email brendon@thebrothersgreen.co if you are taking any other medicines, just so he can double check (he is a Pharmacist so you’re in good hands).

Thanks 👍🏽👍🏽🤗

Tried a sample of your hemp oil at NW Prestons. Considering purchasing.
You are promoting it as an omega 3 supplement, but described as omega 6
I’m on daily aspirin ( for blood thinning) have read (Mayo Clinic web site) that omega 3 taken as a dietary supplement can increase bleeding risk?
Any comments
Cheers Ron
